CompTIA A+

CompTIA A+ is the industry-standard, vendor-neutral certification for entry-level IT professionals, validating foundational skills in troubleshooting, networking, operating systems, security, and hardware. It requires passing two exams—Core 1 (220-1101) and Core 2 (220-1102)—that focus on practical, hands-on, performance-based tasks for roles such as help desk technician, desktop support, or field service technician.

Prerequisite - These prerequisites are strongly recommended; however, they are not mandatory

  • Hands-on experience in an IT support specialist role or a similar technical support position

  • End-user support skills with Windows-based PCs, including troubleshooting common hardware, software and connectivity issues

  • Basic knowledge of computing concepts, operating systems, applications, networks and peripheral devices

Key Areas of Competency

  • Hardware & Networking (Core 1): Installing/configuring components, peripheral devices, and mobile devices, and understanding networking fundamentals.

  • Operating Systems & Software (Core 2): Supporting Windows, Linux, Apple OS X, and mobile OS, including security, cloud computing, and virtualization basics.

  • Troubleshooting: Diagnosing and resolving problems for end-users, including security, networking, and hardware issues.

Exam Details & Requirements

  • Exams: Two required exams (Core 1 and Core 2).

  • Format: Maximum of 90 questions per exam (multiple-choice, drag-and-drop, and performance-based).

  • Duration: 90 minutes per exam.

  • Validity: Valid for 3 years.

  • Target Audience: Ideal for technical support specialists, service desk analysts, and IT support professionals.
